Silsbee is a veteran Los Angeles arts journalist who specializes
in jazz. His work has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles
magazine, Downbeat, the Downtown News, Jewish Journal, MOJO, and
elsewhere. He is archived on the Rock's Back Pages website and
contributes to the artsmeme site. A prolific liner note essayist,
Silsbee also made film appearances in "The Legend of Teddy Edwards,"
"Sound of Redemption: The Frank Morgan Story" and "Jazz on the West
Coast: The Lighthouse." He conducted videotaped oral histories for
the Grammy Foundation of McCoy Tyner, Artie Shaw, and James Moody
among others. He has moderated dozens of panels for the L.A. Jazz
Institute's biannual big band festivals since 1994.
