president's message

Dear Jazz Lover,

As I write this year’s Message, I am overcome by the support of our wonderful community. The California Jazz Foundation’s outreach during these 14 years has engendered your ever-increasing response, as members, volunteers, and donors. Everywhere I go I meet new friends who wish to join our cause, because of their abiding love of the music and the musicians who give so much of themselves. It is indeed a privilege to have the opportunity to help when those musicians are in medical or financial crisis.

The California Jazz Foundation celebrated its 14th anniversary on January 30, 2020 and we have assisted more than 300 musicians. We have provided counseling, medical referrals, help with housing emergencies, car and telephone payments and virtually anything that is needed. Even those few musicians who are adequately insured often find themselves with no resources to pay their rent or put food on their table when emergencies strike. A safety net is almost unknown to most jazz musicians who are faced with a medical or financial crisis.

I’m pleased to report that our outreach into Orange County and the Coachella Valley have had continued success under the leadership of Vicki Pedrini and Sue Townsley with their active and committed Steering Committees. Just in the period of three years, their efforts have brought in 205 new members and friends.

Please join us - become a member, make a tax-deductible donation, attend our fundraising events, and help us spread the word. With your support and generosity, we will always be here … to help.

Thank you,

Edythe L. Bronston
